Heh, I meant to mention QFG3. It is a Roland SC-55 (GM) score. It was a late 1992 game if I remember correct. The MT-32 got reasonable support for most of the game, since at the time Sierra paid people to do such a thing (unlike later on) but try a track like "the Leopardman" (well, woman, Johari's rock theme), and it's banal on the 'ol MT.

There's one last game I'm struggling to decide on, Quest For Glory 3. In all honesty I don't especially like either version which might be why it's not easy to pick a winner. I'm edging towards the MT-32 - is that right?

Hey to everyone,

Today I'd like to (belatedly) wish my good friend Vroom from the Space Quest forum days a very happy 20th for last Tuesday, sorry it's a bit late, I've been sick the last week. Hoping you had fun and school/work is going great, man.

Besides being a game music fan, I'm also a metal head.

Pantera is one of my favorite bands. Their Cowboys From Hell album is a real classic, including the loud but also very beautiful Cemetery Gates. They are re-releasing as in an awesome 20th Anniversary Edition with cool bonus cd's, including live material and demo's.
The cover's pretty funny too, I think. I highly recommend it. Dimebag Darrell was one of the best guitar player that ever lived.

So what kinds of music do you guys like?

Thanks guys, I think I know what I'm doing now. The first 3 Holye's games were definitely MT-32 but the 4th one used SCI1.1 and came out in 93 so I guess it will be SC-55.

MI is pretty much spot on, with the addition of PQ1VGA being a MT-32 score also.
KQ6 is a SC-55 score but has the MT-32 score mostly optimized for the MT-32, unusual in the fact that most games after KQ6 did not do this, the SC-55 and MT-32 scores were almost always the same (i.e. MT-32 score was the SC-55, just played on the MT-32).
As far as a timeline goes,
1988-1991, all games were MT-32.
1992, LB2, SQ4CD, QFG1VGA, PQ1VGA, and Eco Quest 1 were MT-32, KQ6, Island of Dr. Brain, and Dynamix games like the TIM series were all SC-55.
All games from 1993 and on are SC-55, with most being lousy on the MT-32.

BTW, I didn't think any Hoyle games were SC-55.

All SCI0, SCI01, SCI10 games were written for the MT-32. No exceptions. All SCI1.1 games have both MT-32 and Sound Canvas support but different games were written specifically on different modules. Some sound better on one than the other and vice versa and some sound good on both. Out of the SCI1.1 games, I believe LB2, SQ4CD, QFG1VGA, and Eco Quest 1 all sound best on the MT-32. KQ6 I think sounds good on either one but I'd suggest the Sound Canvas since KQ6 makes extensive use of a piano which sounds horrible on the MT-32.

Somebody feel free to correct me on these facts.
